Trinity Lutheran Church hosts three concert series:

  • The Main Concert Series, Sundays at 4:00 p.m.,
     
  • The noontime "Bach's Lunch Recitals" at 12:15 p.m. on first Fridays from September or October through June, and
     
  • "The Previews" at 2:00 p.m. on third or fourth Saturdays from September through June (except December). From January through June, the concerts are repeated the next day on Beverly Hills' "Music In The Mansion" recital series in the the historic Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion.

The concert will include masterworks of the chamber music repertoire followed by Dmitry Sitkovetsky's arrangement J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations for string trio performed by UCLA string faculty members: Movses Pogossian, Tchaikovsky Competition Prizewinner and Artistic Director of the Dilijan Chamber Music Series; Guillaume Sutre, 1st violinist of the internationally renowned Ysaÿe Quartet; and Antonio Lysy, acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, and Artistic Director of Incontri in Terra di Siena Festival in Italy.

18th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORGAN DEDICATION

Timothy Howard, organ

TIMOTHY HOWARD organ

Lecturer in Music at California State University, Northridge, Timothy Howard holds the position of Director of Music and Organist of Pasadena Presbyterian Church and for 13 years held the position of Associate Organist-Choirmaster at All Saints Church in Pasadena. This year marks his fifth season at the Corona del Mar Baroque Music Festival. A graduate, with honors, from the University of Southern California with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Dr. Howard also holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and Biola University.

KARLA DEVINE organ

Karla Devine is Director of Music, Organist, and Director of Children's Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach. Karla is also a soprano with Camerata Singers of Long Beach. She did her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland, and at the University of Minnesota. Karla is the Artistic Director of the Trinity Lutheran Church Concert Series.

CSUF CSUFUniversity Singers

The CSUF University Singers is comprised of 33 upper-class members selected by audition. In recent years, they have become recognized as a premier collegiate vocal ensemble performing for numerous choral conventions including the American Choral Directors Association. The group has performed with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra among others, and in February 2003, was selected to perform at the ACDA National Convention in New York presenting concerts at Riverside Church, Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall. Most recent among numerous tours was to Northern Italy in June 2010.

Robert Hobby, organRobert A. Hobby is Director of Music and Organist at Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana, which has a congregation of almost 3,500 members. During his tenure, Trinity Church has established a choral series with seventeen composers commissioned thus far, hosted a regional convention of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, produced four recordings, and expanded the opportunities for music ministry, including an active youth choir of forty teenagers. Mr. Hobby received his Bachelor's Degree in Church Music from Wittenberg University in 1985 and a Master's Degree in Organ Performance from the University of Notre Dame in 1987.

The 55-voice Long Beach Camerata Singers is dedicated to excellence in choral music. This concert will follow a Lenten theme, featuring Bach's motet, Jesu, meine Freude, among other choral works. An interpretive blues singer will present related contrasting music between the choral works.
